Asphalt 7 Turns Up the Heat as it Hits the Google Play Store

You’ve been waiting for it, and it’s finally here! Asphalt 7: Heat officially hit the Google Play store today and for only one dollar! That’s right folks, $1 is all it takes to get your hands on the 7th edition of Gameloft’s popular racing series.
With claims of 60 licensed cars and over 150 races in 15 leagues, this all points to a very serious experience. And since I already told you the price, you know it’s worth it! Gameloft also mentions a revamped multiplayer, you are able to play with up to 6 racers competing at once, and who said gaming can’t be social!? Asphalt 7 boasts some very nice graphical touches like reflections and lens flare, although if you are an owner of a shiny Tegra powered device, you won’t notice any graphical enhancements. Now, with that said, Asphalt 7 is said to work on most devices running Android 2.2 and up. I looked in the list of devices I’ve owned and the Asus Transformer TF101 is listed as unsupported, although, I haven’t confirmed this. Be aware, Asphalt 7: Heat is 1.4GB in size, so make sure you have a decent connection before attempting to download it.
I love racing games, I am currently playing through Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 and it’s stunning, so when I sit down with a racing game on my phone, I kinda expect it to me pretty darn good. To be honest with you, I have never had that experience on any Android racing game. Since it’s only one dollar, I downloaded Asphalt 7: Heat and will let you know what I think!

Official Nexus 7 Cover Now Available in the Google Play Store

We’ve been keeping an eye out for the official Nexus 7 cover to become available in the Google Play store and today they finally landed. Only available in dark grey, a new case for your N7 is going to set you back just over $30 depending on your local tax. This includes $19.99 for the unit, $9.99 for 2-day shipping, and a few bucks for uncle Sam. It seems a little pricey after all is said and done but it could very well be worth it to have some custom fitting protection. We will get ours in a few days so stay tuned for some feedback. Heck, if a few of you are interested, I could even throw a quick video together showing you how it looks/works on the tablet. Sky’s Now TV Launches on Android, Brings Streaming Movies to Folks in the UK

Update To Google Play Music Brings Improved UI, Playing Queue, and More

You may want to check your app updates because Google Play Music just got an awesome new update. This new version comes with a bunch of new improvements and features such as:
Now Playing queue that allows for queuing and reordering of currently playing music.
New UI for navigation with transport controls on the action bar.
New large album art view on Recent.
Playlist art is now constructed from album art of songs in the playlist.
Now Playing widget has album art and support for thumbs up.
Harder, better, faster, stronger.
I’m already loving this new version. The improved UI makes for a cleaner look, the playlist art is a nice new addition, and I’m especially loving the new queuing features. Pair of root methods developed for Sony Xperia S

Owners of Sony’s Xperia S phones may be interested in a couple root methods that have been developed for the handsets. The methods get around the locked bootloader of the Xperia S.
Over on the XDA Developer forums, member Sharaz22 has developed a “long” method to root the Xperia S. The method uses several batch files and then users complete some operations on Flashtool. To wrap up the install, Superuser from the Google Play store needs to be installed. Building on the work of Sharaz22 and others, XDA forum member hk2006 has developed a “short” version that is more of a one-click solution that basically wraps the long method into a single batch file.
The two methods do have some issues, including the lack of a custom recovery. With the “short” method, some users are reporting the batch file needs to be run more than once and some users with ICS have reported a factory reset may be required to address some lag issues.

Carbon for Android will release week of July 22nd for free in Google Play

Carbon for Android has been the most anticipated Twitter client for quite some time now. According to the app makers Google+ page, Carbon for Android will finally see an official release in the Google Play Store during the week of July 22nd. To much of the developers dismay, the app will be free due to Google’s current stance on not accepting paid apps from the United Arab Emirates in which the developing team reside in.

If you pre-ordered your Nexus 7 from Gamestop, good news, it’s now in stock

Those of you that decided to order your Nexus 7 through Gamestop are the lucky ones because you will be able to play with your new Nexus 7 before those that ordered it through Google Play. Gamestop is sending out texts and emails letting those who pre-ordered know that it’s in stock and ready for pick up.
Now if you didn’t pre-order, don’t plan on stopping by to snag one because they only received enough stock to cover pre-orders. The regular supply won’t hit stores until August 7.
