When I first saw the Motorola Atrix HD’s landing page which revealed its full specs, I was mildly surprised to see no mention of a lapdock accessory. We have now learned that Motorola has confirmed that the Atrix HD will not support it, which also means the WebTop function will be gone as well. The lapdock has been one of the main features that Motorola would tout in their Atrix line, thus I find it a little surprising that they’re going in a different direction for the Atrix HD.
Perhaps Motorola felt it was more of a gimmick than anything. With the over-priced lapdock accessory, I’m sure it steered many customers away from it and possibly resulted in it being killed off completely for the upcoming Atrix HD.
When asked about the lack of a lapdock, Motorola responded by saying it left out this accessory due to the fact that they were targeting the device at a more price-conscious consumer. Considering the lapdock wasn’t exactly a big hit, I’m sure most consumers wouldn’t mind the lapdock being killed off.
